EUREPICA CHALLENGE – a new European Epic
EUREPICA CHALLENGE is the result of Belarus Free Theatre’s summon to 14 writers from 14 countries to give new perspectives on the most urgent challenges facing their societies. The performance reflects multifaceted images of a contemporary Europe with its dark shadows, absurdities and frustrations; but also glimpses of hopes and dreams needed for a possible shared future.
The image of EUREPICA CHALLENGE is a passenger airplane on which the audience embarks for a tour over the continent, stopping in each country of the 14 playwrights. The artists will be our pilots and flight attendants - performers and intermediators.
World Premiere February 28, 7 PM
Performances March 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
at 7 PM
Venue: Folkparken in Lund, Sweden
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
What do we know about our European neighbours? Their dreams, hopes, difficulties and daily lives? Their civil, social and political realities? What images do we have of each other beyond stereotypes and what mass media feeds us? Are we curious enough to look for the spaces in between, see the cracks, and enter the off roads? Are there mental borders and issues we are not aware of?
This performance was born out of a need to dig deeper into these questions. Belarus Free Theatre wants to create a platform from where to extend the knowledge of contemporary Europe. Explore how different national self images, false or true, affect perceptions of the surrounding world; inside as well as outside the EU.
EUREPICA CHALLENGE is a collective attempt to create a new European epic built upon the personal voices of 14 playwrights.
